This is a self-portrait in which an orchid crosses the eyes, obscuring the face and concealing the subject’s identity. I am interested in creating images that feel like fragments of a dream, with a quiet sense of melancholy and mystery.
By hiding the eyes, I remove one of the most recognisable features of a person, leaving the figure open to interpretation. The viewer is invited to project themselves, someone they know, or their own emotions into the figure.
As part of an ongoing series, the work explores the relationship between the human figure and nature. The flowers in my work also symbolise human life. Like people, flowers grow, bloom, flourish, and eventually fade and die.
